The Field of Excellence welcomes a new PI, Markus Hadler. He is Full Professor and Head of the Department of Sociology. His research focuses on environmental behaviors and attitudes using survey research and is an excellent addition to the current research topics in  Climate Change Graz. He has successfully applied for research grants in this area, such as form the Austrian Science Funds to study the effects of global and national forces on environmental behaviors, from the Austrian National Bank to study CO2 relevant behaviors, from the EU to study the societal effects of replacing coal in a steel mill, and from the University of Graz and Technical University of Graz to study polarization of attitudes towards climate change in public opinion and social media. He is also the  Austrian representative of the International Social Survey Programme (www.issp.org), a  group of researchers from 48 countries with a current focus on environmental attitudes and behaviors.
